Northern British Columbia · Two guide areas

Every window,
with its year on it.

A hunter comparing outfits tonight is deciding on a USD $24,000 booking. The rates page tells him the price and the dates — and never once tells him the year.

The year, at a glance

The same five packages the site already lists, laid across the twelve months rather than stacked in five separate tables.

Shaded where the outfit's own published windows fall. No year is shown, because the live site does not carry one — that is the point of this concept, not an omission in it.

What already works

The rates are published in full

Every package, every window, the guiding ratio and the currency. Most outfitters make you ask, and the asking is where people drop out.

Included and not included, in writing

Included: all ground transportation, accommodations and meals in the area during the hunt. Not included: licenses, fees, taxes & additional animals. That is the sentence that stops an argument in camp.

The site is already in two languages

English and German, both maintained. That is a deliberate decision about where the clients are, and it is the right one.

Read from the live site, 30 July 2026

And four things that are costing bookings.

Not one date on the rates page carries a year

“Aug 06 – Aug 16” against a twenty-four thousand dollar hunt, on a page whose footer says 2024. A hunter deciding tonight cannot tell whether he is looking at this season, next season, or a page nobody has touched in two years.

The site was not built for a phone

None of the pages carry a viewport tag, so a phone renders the desktop layout shrunk to fit. The rate tables are the worst of it, and the rates are the reason people come.

There is no enquiry form anywhere

A twenty-four thousand dollar booking currently begins with ringing a mobile, or clicking an email link. Somebody in Germany reading at eleven at night has nothing to fill in and nothing to send.

The kit list is a 2019 PDF

The “What to Pack” link downloads Gear_List_English_2019.pdf. It may well still be right — but it is a seven-year-old file, and it is the first document a booked hunter opens.

None of this is a criticism of the outfitting. A site gets built once, in a season when there is time, and then the seasons keep coming and nobody is at a desk.

What would change, in order

1

Put the year on everything

One season record. Every window prints its year, and the page rolls to the next season without anybody editing a table.

2

Show what is left

Open, few spaces, or booked, against each window. It is the single most persuasive thing an outfitter can publish, and it costs nothing to say.

3

An enquiry form on every hunt

Species, window, party size, and their contact. It arrives in the same inbox, but it arrives at midnight in Munich instead of not arriving.

4

Built for a phone first

The rate tables become readable cards. Nothing is removed — it just stops needing to be pinched and dragged.

The enquiry that does not exist yet

Species, window, party size, and where to write back. Four fields, landing in the same inbox the phone calls already land in — but reachable at eleven at night from Munich, which is where a good part of the trade is.
